Post-Lockdown Looks: Statement Flares

Yellow has always been one of my absolute favourite colours - there is just something about it that makes me happy! But, it's not a colour I would ever really wear. So when I saw these trousers, I just knew I had to have them!

While statement flares are a wardrobe essential for coming seasons, they can be a bit daunting to style if you've been living in black skinny jeans since 2012 like most of us. In this post I wanted to show you three really simple ways to style a statement pair of flares for spring and summer. My flares are from Hollister and are a really light weight stretch fabric, perfect for summer, but all of these looks would work with a heavier, denim pair.

Flares: Hollister    Crop: Cotton On    Bag: Oliver Bonas    Shoes: Nike

For my first look I paired the flares with a loose fitting white polo crop for a stylish but casual look. I added a bright mini handbag to add to the sunny look, as well as a bright white pair of trainers. I wore this look for a relaxed, post-lockdown catch up with friends and received so many compliments. Using such a simple, staple crop top really allows the flares to be the centre of attention without feeling too over the top.

Flares: Hollister    Baby Cami: Hollister    Shoes: Tommy Hilfiger

While this look is maybe not the faint of heart, I absolutely love it! Baby Cami's are absolutely perfect for summer (particularly if you're looking to perfect your big trousers, small top look) and by matching the statement colour of the flares it creates a cohesive and bold look perfect for lounging in the sun with an iced coffee! I added my chunky Tommy trainers to complete the look.

I've linked a similar alternative)

Finally, I dressed the flares up with this gorgeous puff sleeve and tie back cropped blouse. This look is perfect for when you need smart but not like you're wearing your mums clothes! It'd be perfect for a meeting with a university lecturer, or a work zoom where you don't want to feel embarrassed to stand up. I once again paired this look with my go to Tommy trainers, partially out of necessity on crutches.

  1. Yellow was my favorite color as a child, but I don't really keep anything yellow in my closet. These trousers look good on you! They make you look more cheerful 💛
